Whether you’re writing your thesis or dissertation, a journal article, or a novel or memoir, sometimes you need…something else. You need inspiration, a community, grammar answers, or just want some virtual company on the journey. Websites for writers can do all of this and more. They can answer questions about publishing, provide inspiration and encouragement, give advice about writing mechanics and techniques, or sometimes just be another fellow writer reaching out into the interwebs, letting you know you’re not alone.

Here are some of the websites we think might be helpful to you, whatever you’re working on right now.

Write It Sideways – This site is full of informative articles about plot writing, character building, writing query letters, copywriting, grant writing – no matter what kind of writing you do (creative, professional, academic), there is something for you here.

Grammar Monster – a great site for English language learners, this site has grammar terms and definitions, common grammar errors, a complete grammar glossary, and even YouTube videos.

NaNoWriMo – While this might be a well-known site during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), it also has a blog with lots of great posts to get your creative juices flowing.

Freelancer FAQs – This is pretty self-explanatory, but is especially helpful for those freelance writers just starting out, or for those who are thinking about branching out into the freelancer writer’s life.

Purdue OWL – From the Purdue University online writing lab, this is a wonderful resource with information about general writing, research and citations, subject-specific writing, ESL issues, and much, much more. It is a great site for academic writing.

diyMFA – If you’ve ever considered or dreamed about getting an MFA (Master’s in Fine Arts) in writing, check out this site. There are blog posts, podcasts, books, resources galore – definitely a place for creative writers of all types.

Daily Writing Tips – This site has tons of great entries in all kinds of categories: reviews of books on writing, grammar, fiction writing, academic writing, misused words, punctuation, vocabulary, usage review, and more. Easy-to-navigate format and lots of information that can not only help, but is fun to read, too.

Websites can be helpful for so many things, but they can’t take the place of a professional editor. Here at Dissertation Editor, we have been where you are. We’ve written theses and dissertations, and know that it’s not easy. We offer a range of services to assist you with whatever kinds of project you’re working on, whether it’s academic, professional, or personal. Contact us today to learn more.
