Ah, Pi Day – no, not PIE day, although we’d love that, too – but Pi Day, a day in which math lovers everywhere celebrate the wonder that is pi, the mathematical constant typically known as 3.14. Hence, why we celebrate it on March 14th (3/14). Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and it never changes, which is why it’s called a constant. It’s thought that the digits of pi go on forever, since the digits have been calculated to over one trillion digits past the decimal point, but pi is commonly just rounded to 3.14.

We’ve had previous blog posts about Pi Day here and here, but there are always more ways to celebrate our favorite number!

Make it a real Pi(e)-filled day. Why not buy (or make!) a variety of different kinds of pie and share with your friends or colleagues while you discuss the wonders of mathematics and pi? If you want to get creative, add in some pizza….because it’s a pizza PI(E). There you go – you’re all set for your meals for the day!

Watch math-related movies. Check out movies like Proof, A Beautiful Mind, Hidden Figures, The Theory of Everything, and The Man Who Knew Infinity.

Do some reading about pi. Check out this BBC article about pi, and then search google for interesting articles and blogs.

Send a Pi Day greeting. Here are some e-cards you can send to those who appreciate pi as much as you.

See how many digits you can memorize. While there are documented trillions of digits after the decimal point, test your memory to see how many you can remember! Here’s a song to help you remember the first 100 digits.
